We offer Residential care, dementia care and respite care to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of our residents
Ocean Heights is located in the picturesque Minster-on-Sea in Kent
The admission process involves an initial assessment to understand the care needs and preferences of the prospective resident. We then create a personalised care plan and discuss the details with you and your family.
At Ocean Heights we are registered as a Care home with the regulatory body, the Care Quality Commission, to provide care for people over the age of 65 and people living with dementia. Once an enquiry has been made to us, then you will be invited to look around the home, where you will meet the manager and staff and other residents. Please ask as many questions as you like on your visit. Before moving in an assessment of need will be completed by the manager, this will be done by observations on your abilities as well as questions relating to healthcare and support needs. The manager will then tell you if your needs can be supported in the home, at that point the manager will make you aware of the next steps.
We encourage you to bring items from home so that you are surrounded by items that are familiar and homely. Any electrical portable appliance will need to be PAT tested and any furnishings will need to comply with fire regulations. You can discuss this with the manager on assessment.
The care costs will vary dependant on the level of care needed and the room chosen, starting fees are £1500 per week. There will be an annual increase in fees in-line with the cost of living. Fees will cover accommodation costs and care, however additional services will be extra, for example, hairdressing, massage therapy, chiropody services and telephone.
We continually review our residents needs and the support we offer and we are all of the opinion that this is the residents home. Unfortunately there may sometimes be occasions whereby the level of care needed is greater than we can offer in a residential setting. In these circumstances we will support you and your family through the process. There are two types of Care homes; Residential and Nursing homes, both offer 24-hour support, however Nursing homes have registered Nurses on site 24 hours a day meaning that Nursing homes are typically utilised by residents that may require regular medical attention that the District Nurses are unable to provide.
Visitors are welcome at any time during the day, however we do have protected meal times and ask that visitors refrain from visiting at this time unless they wish to join their loved one for private dining which is available at a small cost. Residents can see their guests in their rooms or make use of any of our communal areas. Please be mindful that this is other peoples home also and some residents may have a greater need then others, therefore we do ask that children are supervised at all times during their visit.
At Ocean Heights we recognise that there may be several reasons why a short-term stay may be ideal, for example if an older person is being cared for by family members or friends then this option allows those caregivers to take some time for themselves. Respite care may be needed following a time in hospital after a fall or illness to allow people to have a little more recovery time before going home. Some people may be considering moving into care and wish to have some respite time in a care home to decide their options without committing to a long term stay.
Ocean Heights is staffed 24 hours a day and have waking night staff.
There is CCTV in operation around the perimeter of the home.
There is a Nurse call bell system in place whereby residents can ring for support and assistance.
The home is fitted with a sprinkler system and is equipped with all the regulatory fire safety precautions.
All staff are trained in their mandatory training requirements.
There is an on call system in operation 24/7 so staff can access support and help if needed during out of hours.
All doors accessible are on an intercom/keypad so a visitor has to be let in by staff.
There is not a safe in your room , however a lockable drawer/cabinet will be provided for any personal valuables you may have.
If you live within the same catchment area as the home you may be able to keep your own GP, however if the home is away from where you live we will support you to find an alternative GP.
Of course you may contact your GP if you so wish, however we would like you to inform us as we have a duty of care to keep your records up to date.
Yes of course. We work with you or your representative to develop your care plan and review it regularly with you to ensure it is up to date, accurate and reflective of your current needs.
