Residential Care

Ocean Heights, a Home from Home

Ocean Heights is a purpose-built Care home, built to an exceptionally high standard. The home is sited close to Minster Leas Beach, a blue flag award winning beach with a long promenade that offers views of the estuary on the north coast of the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.

The home boasts beautiful panoramic sea views. Ocean Heights is set out over four floors and has 50 ensuite bedrooms. All the bedrooms are furnished and decorated to a high standard and have built in wardrobes and furnishings designed so there is everything you need to house all your belongings. The profiling beds allow residents to find personalised comfort and support for a good nights sleep as well as reducing pressure on vulnerable areas to allow for optimum skin integrity.

In total there are 3 dining rooms and 7 lounges where residents can sit and relax. Each communal area has hearing loop kits so that people who are hard of hearing (provided they have the telecoil setting on their hearing aid) can benefit from a clearer magnified sound. The communal spaces are tastefully decorated and designed for safety and comfort. The areas are spacious and light and airy.

Ocean Heights is equipped with a fully functional gym. Gentle exercises to help build up muscle strength with some light resistance equipment, can be used under the supervision and watchful eye of our qualified trainer. Our vibrant and fun cinema room at Ocean Heights brings our residents together in comfort to watch their favourite films, and end the day with a tranquil, relaxing, holistic massage in our fully equipped therapy room.

Benefits of moving into Ocean Heights

If a loved one’s care needs can no longer be managed safely at home then consideration to moving into a Care home setting may be an option. There are many benefits to moving into Residential care, we have listed some benefits below.
Elderly people can often feel lonely and isolated, this can have a detrimental impact on peoples mental and physical health. In a care home residents can socialise, interact with others and share experiences about the “good old days”
As we get older our senses may start to decline making activities of daily living sometimes challenging. Having access to assistance from trained care staff means help is on hand at all times, which gives residents and their loved one’s peace of mind.

There is always support available around the clock day and night, and always someone available to help you.
Eating and drinking properly is often a main concern when it comes to the elderly and frail. Getting the right nutrients and eating and drinking is important throughout our lives but as we get older it is especially important that we maintain good health.

As we get older appetites may dwindle, older people may forget to eat or their ability to prepare meals regularly may decline, this could then result in weight loss and ill health.

At Ocean Heights we ensure that residents have access to delicious home cooked, nutritionally balanced meals.
Ocean Heights is a warm and inviting Residential home. It is not a clinical environment, and every effort has been made to try and make it a home from home.

This is our resident’s home, and we want the home to be a place full of laughter and lasting memories, as peoples own homes are. Residents are encouraged to bring keepsakes from home to make their environment comfortable and familiar.

Residents don’t have to worry about keeping the house clean and keeping up with all maintenance and running costs associated with running a home.
Sometimes people may miss or take too much of their medication. At Ocean Heights we have trained staff to order and administer residents’ medication.

Our trained staff ensure that medication is stored, ordered and administered properly, in line with prescribers direction. We can liaise with the GP to ensure that residents have regular medication reviews, and we can actively monitor the effects of medication on the resident’s wellbeing.

If people wish to manage their own medication, we can support them to do this safely.
Some care needs are difficult to meet at home. At Ocean Heights we work with healthcare partners and ensure that specialist referrals are made as and when necessary.

An example of teams we refer to may include Dieticians, Speech and Language Therapists, District Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Mental Health Services.

At Ocean Heights we are registered to look after people with dementia. We also have access to specialist equipment that may not be able to be accommodated in peoples own homes (a hoist for instance).
Socialisation is important for people of all ages, however, it is just as important for us to have access to our own, personal space. In a Care home, residents have their own room where they can retreat to whenever they need time to themselves.
A huge advantage of Residential care is that Care home staff can help residents with daily activities like bathing and dressing. At Ocean Heights we ensure that we support residents by giving the help that they need but also allowing residents to maintain their independence.
We understand how hard looking after a loved one can be and how the Caregiver may be in need of a much deserved break.

At Ocean Heights we recognise the importance of Caregivers taking time for themselves to maintain their own wellbeing and allowing for some rest and recuperation.

It is important to offer residents opportunities to remain engaged in society and with other people to ensure no one is lonely, isolated or bored.

At Ocean Heights we are always looking at ways to improve the quality of life of residents and regularly put on events or activities. This could be anything from receiving visits from local schools, quality entertainers, gardening and exercise classes, to name just a few.
